Remember to shut down Lenovo S12

I found that merely putting my Lenovo S12 netbook to sleep isn't going enough to keep it down.  It will, in most case, auto awake itself, and since it's running that damn face recognition authentication system, it will keep the S12 staying up forever.  So the best way to put the machine into energy efficient mode is to shut it down.

And speaking of that face recognition feature, it is such a bitter sweet.  Cause for one hand it's actually working pretty OK, but I hate it keeping my machine running, and thus render sleep mode unless.

Cancelling blockbuster online

Cancelling Blockbuster Online was a slightly bigger hassle than I expected.  When I tried to cancel my account using Chrome, I got the "Duplicate headers received from server" error message with this:

• The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue.
  Error 350 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_LOCATION): Multiple Location headers received. This is disallowed to protect against HTTP response splitting attacks.

This seemed pretty crazy to me.  So I tried cancelling on Firefox, and first I got redirected to a stupid StarWar Video icon and brought me back to the catalog.  Second trial, same thing.  Third trial, and I was finally got redirected to a cancel reason page.  But after I entered the reason and click Cancel, it gave me some error messages.  I need to go back, and click the same Cancel button again in order to make the cancel get thru.

I just checked my email and found that the canceling got thru.  Still, I will be very hesitate to use this service again. 

End of fustration

My MacMini was acting up yesterday.  After I restarted on the Windows 7 side, it failed to come up the login screen on my monitor (connected using Display port).  After a few hours of frustration, I finally realized that somehow the display mode messed when HDMI (from DVI port) was also pluged in.  I also found that sometime the display will get into power saving mode, and I had to unplug and replug in the cable in order to bring to display back on the screen.  Put put a long story short, the problem is now solved.

I also solved my fustration with 2 games that I rented from Blockbuster video, and they were both XBox 360 games.  As the only horror adventure game for Kinect, Rise of Nightmares does an OK job.  But I got stuck at the end of Act 3 to a point that I just had to give up.  Besides, there's no real save mechanism.  Even after I reached the very last scene of Act 3, they will still throw me back to the beginning of Act3, which to me, unacceptable.

And then I received the game Deus Ex: Human Revolution.  After playing it for less than an hour, I concluded that I am suck at first person shooting, and should not attempt to try it, ever.  That genere evolved to a point that non FPS gamer can't get into it without tons of frustration.  Until they put in an easy mode, I am not coming back.  So I will send back both games today.

Thanks to Engadget, I realized that there's a beta testing deal that allows me to jack up my Dropbox folder size by testing the photo upload feature.  I tried and actually find it handy.  Here's a few funny facts that I found out along the way:

• The photo upload feature actually recognize the same photo (binary content) but in different filename.  So it does the right thing by not syncing something that had been upload before.
• It's a photo upload feature, not sync.  So even after you deleted the photo from your device, the photo file(s) on Dropbox will still be there.  Think of it as an automated way of backing up your photos.

So far I was enjoying the feature.  In fact it might even encourage me to use my Android more as camera.

Suddenly realized that there's probably too much Dropbox sync going on ...

I checked my dropbox list, and found that there were a huge list of sync pairing in the list.  In order to avoid syncing stuff that I don't meant to sync, and spent some time and deleted all that are not relevant anymore.
