VirtualBox blown up VMWare Player?

I just tried bootup VirtualBox portable while trying a VMWare Player at the back running a VMWare. The VMWare VM suddenly blown up and just died. I guess I can't have both VMWare and VirtualBox running at the same time.

Stylus problem on my Tablet PC

I realized something odd about my Tablet PC: there are times when the system (Windows 7) suddenly stopped recognizing my stylus after using the machine for a while. However, the problem can be corrected by logging out and then logging in again. This is such an irritating problem, and I somehow, someday, I need to find a way to fix it.

One way I am trying to do is disabling Touch panel (by going to the Control Panel, and check off the Touch Panel checkbox.)

And, just found that it still didn't fail.

BitKinex doesn't seem to be Unicode (or at least Chinese character) friendly

Just a while ago I found out that when I transfer files using BitKinex through Windows 7 to my iPod Touch (running Files), I found that all the Unicode based Chinese character file names are all messed. I tried using Windows 7's native Windows Explorer WebDAV support, and all the Chinese characters show up properly. Maybe there's a way to twist BitKinex to make it work properly with Chinese character, but for now I have to live with not using it to transfer things that involves Chinese chracter file names.

BitKinex, finally a worthy WebDAV client

I was using Windows Explorer on Windows XP and Windows 7 as WebDAV client, and the performance was simply terrible. Finally I faded up with it and listen to people's advice (on StackOverflow) and give BitKinex a try. Man what a dramatic difference. If you use you PC to transfer file to iPhone a lot, you definitely need to give this software a try. Well worth the money.

Best way to cure Windows network file sharing problem: reboot network Router?

I wasn't fustrated by the Windows network file sharing suddenly not working after I robooted my Netbook. It wasn't the problem of the firewall (ZoneAlarm) or anything, and no matter what I tried the problem still exist. This morning, however, things suddenly get back to normal, and I suspected that it's mainly because I rebooted network router. Otherwise I didn't do anything particularly. Maybe I'll keep this in mind next time I have the same problem.

Crashing and slow down ... could it be too many cloud drives?

Yesterday I experienced Tablet stylus input not responding to my screen touch. Today I experienced system not responding on my home desktop, and even system crash on my office laptop, all AFTER I installed all three cloud drives (Zumo Drive, DropBox, SugarShare) on my office laptop, home desktop and my tablet. So let me remove most of those cloud drives (except DropBox which needs to continue working on my office machine), and see if my problem goes away later.

VirtualBox: Pretty impressed

I was not pleased with VMWare Server's performance, and finally I decided to give VirtualBox a shot, and to my surprise, it worked way better than I expected. In fact, VirtualBox has a portable version while VMWare Server does not. Just the portable support itself wins VMWare hands down.

Another great thing about VirtualBox is the performance. I found VM running on VirtualBox performs significantly better than on VMWare (Server 1.x). I was also able to simply use a Windows 7 VM disk file on VirtualBox, saved me a lot of reinstallation time.

However, I have serious problem using the XP VMWare drive image. I found out that it's mainly the VMWare Tool that caused the problem even tried to find ways to work around it. But eventually I broke down, and instead installing a clean XP on a newly created VirtualBox VM now. It seems to be working fine so far. All the network features are working properly.

Time to throw away that VM

My "Mix 09 Testbed" VM (running Windows Server 2008) is getting so darn slow that it's basically unusable. I really don't know what to blame for the slowness, be it the Windows Server 2008, or the junk that I put in, or whatever. The point is that it's running like shit and I am about to delete it.
