Cheating on PCSX2 is way harder than I thought

I was pretty fustrated when I played the game Katamari Damacy on Playstation 2 emulator PCSX2.  So I thought, hey it says that it supports cheat, maybe I can give it a try.  And with that thought I waste a whole Tuesday night, and still couldn't get the cheat working.  But then, at least I get to a point where PCSX2 recognize the cheat code and loaded it.

So basically I follow the instruction at here, using the cheat code provided by here, and then manually created a cheat file, and put it in the folder ...\PCSX2 1.3.0\cheats  .  The log file on screen and dumped out did recognize the cheat and loaded them, but the Karamari game didn't give me infinite time.

Another stretegy I developed was by search the the game's CRC with the extension.  That actually allows me to find the cheat file that people prepared, like 0F6B6315.pnach for Kingdom Heart.

Let me continue to try "0F6B6315.pnach" and Kingdom Heart tonight when I get back home and see if it cheat really works.  One thing for sure though: it looks very different from the value I found in http://cheats.codetwink.com/ps2/view/1240 .

Continue my fun with PSP on PPSSPP

Ever since I discovered PSP Emulator PPSSPP, I was amazed by it's ability to emulate my faith game device PSP.   And now I know how to transfer all my PSP save game to PPSSPP.  All I need to do is:

  • Connect my PSP to my desktop PC with a proper USB cable.
  • On PSP, select [Settings][USB Connection]
  • Now the content of memory stick will show up on your PC as a drive.  For instance, on my PC it's the E Drive.
  • Copy everything from E:\PSP\SAVEDATA to the SAVEDATA folder of PPSSPP.  Since my PPSSPP is in \_ To Save\SaveGame\ppsspp_win\ppsspp, so copy everything to \_ To Save\SaveGame\ppsspp_win\ppsspp\memstick\PSP\SAVEDATA .
And that's it.  Now I can enjoy PSP gaming directly on my PC, and access all the save games on my physical PSP.

Finally found a Dreamcast emulator with StateSave

I was using nullDC as my default Dreamcast emulator for a while, and though it performance reasonably fine, it lacks a critical feature that made me use emulator in the first place: the ability to save state, so that I can finish a game without spending huge amount of hours.

Eventually, I found an alternative called Demul.  But then after following some instruction videos, I was even confuse than before.  Eventually I was following this tutorial video,  and realized that I should use the official download to start first, which is from here.  And then i get the BIOS from here, and put them into the roms folder. And then I set up the XBox360 controller, and then selected BIOS "1.01d" (I was NOT ablet to use 1.022), and then everything works fine.

But then state saving is odd:

  • To use the feature, you need to map the key of Save and Load state to a certain button.  I mapped them to keys ASZX.
  • There's a bug that cause the application to crash if you map those Save/Load state button to XBox 360 control.  So make sure you do not do that.
  • If you switch to another game, you should RESTART the application and then load that game.  Otherwise, Save/Load state will be confused and result in mess up State saving files.
