Wasted time on router

I was trying to use my wireless router TEW-432BRP so that use it to do WEP in order to play NDS online. UNfortunately I spent my whole morning and still couldn't get it running properly. Lame.

RE-arranging USB Hubs is tricky

I was trying to rearrange my USB Hubs so that I get rid of all UDB 1.1 hubs and use only USB 2.0 Hub. During the process, I found out that some hubs can't plug in certain place, or it will affect the other hubs. I couldn't figure out the exact reason, by at least I find the right set up to get thing running.

No more TDK DVD Disc forever

There are certain brands that I will never buy products from because of being burned so hard. Imation definitely IS one of those. And since now that TDK discs are actually OEM from Imation, I will never my TDK discs in my life ever again, no matter how cheap the price is. After you've seen tons of Imagtion CDR disc with silver surface peeled off from the plastic disc, you will probably do the same too.

Failing harddisk enclosure

I brought an hard disk enclosure back and I was in HK, and used it on a new 500Gb hard disk. I realized that the power switch part of the enclosure seems to be a bit flicky, but still gave it a try. The thing ran OK for a week and then failed last night. So I have to yank it out.

I am not saying that this brand has problem, and in fact, I brought 2 same brand enclosure from the same store A-Grade. The other one worked very well.

It's just too bad that I was too busy during my Hong Kong trip that I didn't get time to test everything as exhausted as I should be.

Windows 7 and VMWare

I successfully installed Windows 7 Build 6801 on VMWare Workstation ACE Edition 6.0.4 Build 9305. Everything works fine, including VMWare Tools, BlueBadge Rev 2, AVG Antivirus free edition. I did found out that there are features, like VMWare Tools and AVG Free, that has problem running right until after I reboot. But after that everything seems to be OK.

I don't see anything that particularly excited me and make me want to install Windows 7 on my main desktop. So I am glad that I did the experiement on just a VM.

World of Goo is an awesome game

I really don't much more to say except that I really enjoyed the game.

2.5 hours of video

I just figured out by real life testing that my new Canon PowerShot SD880 IS can take 2.5 hours of video in one full battery charge.

That kind of give me some incentive to buy a 16Gb card because a 4Gb card can take 50 minutes of high quality 640 x 480 video. So 16 Gb will able to handle 200 minutes. But in this case the bottomneck is on the battery so need to middle of the process I need to change battery.

Going portable with Adobe CS4

Now that Adobe CS4 products has been released, it's time for me to see if I can turn those apps into portable apps so that I can use it anywhere I want. Flash CS4 seems ok. For Photoshop CS4 I have to copy the Common Files into the "c:\Program Files" directory. I will continue testing the other applications.

Resisting MSI Wind temptation

I was very close from getting a MSI Wind today. I checked BestBuy availability of MSI Wind and found one at a local branch. I was at the computer store readying to buy a 1Gb memory for the MSI Wind. I did reserach on what need to be done to run OSX on MSI Wind. I had the money, and I was not afraid to spend it.

Yet I still haven't get the MSI Wind yet.

One biggest reason: my Lenovo Tablet PC.

There's nothing my Lenovo Tablet PC can't do compare with MSI Wind. Sure MSI Wind is light, but then I have my car. And when I am walking around I prefer using my iPod Touch instead.

MSI Wind, or Netbook in general, seems more a good to have than an essential item in my life.

But it sure is tempting.

500Gb space for VM

I just brought a new 500Gb Harddisk mainly for holding VM. Yes I need that much space to hold VM. I mean, it takes a lot of time to get an environment set up right. So I don't see the problem dedicate that much space for VM.

Pata pata pata pon

A good video game is something that grows on you, with game plays that makes you want more after you get a taste of it. Patapon for PSP delivers that kind of game play.

I have to admit that at first I didn't get the game UNTIL I got stuck at one of the Episode (Mission 3: Zigotons Strike Back). And I started to get frustrated, like why the **ck can't I attack my opponent in short distance. Eventually I figured out that there's another kind of solider that does the short distance attack, and I have to equip and set up the formation. I mostly blame myself for not paying attention to the instruction when the story unfold.

But once I understand things, the game play starts really growing on me. Now I even start having the desire like "Hmmm ... maybe just one more game.... maybe :-E".

I am gald that I didn't just give up and try other games instead, cause otherwise I will miss the fun of this seemingly amazing game.

Finally, my Firewire Solo works with my desktop PC

For so long (like a year), my Firewire Solo was working with my desktop PC but not quite as perfectly. The problem is with the Firewire card I have in my desktop PC. It's a firewire card with VIA VT6306 card it has serious problem with my Firewire Solo, making mic recording TERRIBLE.

Then I got my old Firewire card that I used to have during my Hong Kong trip, and had it installed on my desktop. It worked, and now there's no more strange noise while recording using mic.

However, maybe it's because of the bad connection since the old card was pretty darn old and have oxidized connector, I experienced some strange problem with the Firewire Solo disconnected itself. Hopefully the problem doesn't occur all the time ...

(Crossing my finger now)
