Heavy Rain is awesome, but not with Move Control

I tried and tried to use Move control with play Heavy Rain, but the inaccurate sensor caused my arm hurt and tired, and eventually I have enough and simply stopped using it.  Damn what a piece of shit technology.

Come, Windows Media Center for Windows 8 RTM, come

It took more 2 days to accept the fact that I need to pay US$13 in order to install Windows Media Center on my Windows 8 OS.  So, fine, finally I accepted the fact, and so I tried to buy the key.  And that's when I realized that Windows Media Center for Windows 8 is NOT READY for purchase.  Damn it.  So now I have to wait until Microsoft ready before I can convert my home closet server from Windows 7 to Windows 8.  Damn it.

Updating BIOS for EeeSlate EP121

As the final release of Windows 8 approaches, I want to make sure that my Asus EeeSlate EP121 is ready for the final release on Windows 8.  I was using Windows 8 Release Preview for a while and most of the thing looks fine EXCEPT that accelerometer and hotkey buttons were not working.

Then last night I found out that they have a new BIOS version 701 that added some Windows 8 support.  I was excited and trying to apply it.  Here the problem: how can I update EeeSlate BIOS?

I tried to find the instruction online, and even tried some "utilities" provided by ASUS.  None of them worked cause I couldn't even get those app installed.

Finally I figured out how it works, and it's way easier than I thought:

- Prepare a USB thumb drive, and format it with FAT32
- Put all the BIOS files in it (for me it's EP121AS.701, EP121F1.701 and EP121ME.701)
- Turn off you Eee Slate.
- Hook up a USB keyboard in one USB port, and then plug in your thumb drive in another USB port
- Hold down F2 on your keyboard and turn on your Eee Slate.
- You will now brought to the BIOS screen of Eee Slate
- Select [Advanced][Start Easy Flash]
- the Easy Flash app should be able to detect your thumb drive automatically, found the BIOS file, and show up in the right column on the screen.
- Select it, and kick off the BIOS update process.
- After the update it's done, it will turn itself off.
- Turn it on with F2 holding so that you can get back to BIOS again.  Now check the BIOS version to make sure that the BIOS update were applied successfully.

Windows 8 may not be ready for prime time ... at least not for me

To test a system, you need to put it in real time situation, constantly using it, particularly under stressful intense situation.  And for that Windows 8 Release Preview failed me constantly in the last several days, while Windows 7 worked very well.  So I actually don't see myself switching my desktop environment to Windows 8 soon.

Malfunction Ethernet switch

Very once in a while, I find my home internet connection not available even though the DSL model obviously working fine.  I knew it because I used WiFi to access the router connected next to the modem, and it always worked properly.  This morning I think I found out what the problem is.  It's the ancient Ethernet switch  that I used to connect between the router downstairs and the network upstairs causing the problem.  When the network hiccup happens, all I need to do is restart that router, and the problem will be solved.  So the bottom line is that I need to start shopping for a replacement network switch.
