As the final release of Windows 8 approaches, I want to make sure that my Asus EeeSlate EP121 is ready for the final release on Windows 8. I was using Windows 8 Release Preview for a while and most of the thing looks fine EXCEPT that accelerometer and hotkey buttons were not working.
Then last night I found out that they have a
new BIOS version 701 that added some Windows 8 support. I was excited and trying to apply it. Here the problem: how can I update EeeSlate BIOS?
I tried to find the instruction online, and even tried some "utilities" provided by ASUS. None of them worked cause I couldn't even get those app installed.
Finally I figured out how it works, and it's way easier than I thought:
- Prepare a USB thumb drive, and format it with FAT32
- Put all the BIOS files in it (for me it's EP121AS.701, EP121F1.701 and EP121ME.701)
- Turn off you Eee Slate.
- Hook up a USB keyboard in one USB port, and then plug in your thumb drive in another USB port
- Hold down F2 on your keyboard and turn on your Eee Slate.
- You will now brought to the BIOS screen of Eee Slate
- Select [Advanced][Start Easy Flash]
- the Easy Flash app should be able to detect your thumb drive automatically, found the BIOS file, and show up in the right column on the screen.
- Select it, and kick off the BIOS update process.
- After the update it's done, it will turn itself off.
- Turn it on with F2 holding so that you can get back to BIOS again. Now
check the BIOS version to make sure that the BIOS update were applied successfully.
