No 3D Studio Max 9 for Windows 7?
Strange, for I tried to install 3D Studio Max on Windows 7 beta and it failed. Yet I have no problem installing Maya 2009.

Well i got 3dsmax9 to work in Win7 but i am having problems with DirectX compatibility, it goes in, i can render, everything seems fine, but no screen updating in the workspace and it flashes white, something to do with DIRECT3D, maybe thats where your problem lies also?!

you must try to install 3smax9 64bit and not 32bit because windows7 works in 64bit...

My system is a 64bit, but Max9 setup only gives me 32bit to install.

hello! if your screen flash white, you must choise a non Aero Theme, so it will work!! :)

if you want to install 64 bit version of max, dont install it by the standard autorun , rather browse in the x64 directy i.e "CD >installs>3dsmax_x64>setup.exe"
lemme know if it works for you too,
i did this on windows 7 x64, reason i want to use all my 12 gb for rendering , which i cant if i install the 32 bit version and will be limited to 3.something gb.

How to make 3d studio max 9 work in windows 7.
Go to the 3d studio program folder and right click the 3dsmax.exe then properties, compatibility tab, check run this program in compatibility mode, drop down menu to windows xp 3, apply and you are ready to go.

You need to change the graphic mode to software.
Go to START and in the Autodesk folder you have A Change Graphics Mode.
Select this and when loaded click revert from DX.
Then choose software.
You will still get the for mentioned error, but it will run fine.
