My first 3 Bluray discs .. .not that impressed

I never had Bluray disc until today.  I found that some of the movies were onsale for US$2.99.  So I finally gave in and brought 3 movies.  The movies were fine, but I found the Bluray video quality not that much better than the Netflix streaming or Hulu streaming I've seen so far.  And I much prefer the convenience of browsing a huge library, and navigate the movie in whatever way I want. I probably won't buy any Bluray disc ever again.

Another piece of dead technology: BlueICE Headset BTi-660

I brought this BlueICE Headset BTi-660 a few years ago, hoping that it will be my wireless headphone solution.  It turned out not working as well as I expected as the wire tangle pretty much ruin the experience.  Nevertheless I was hoping that someday I would found a good use of it.  Today I tried to charge it and found that there was no in-charge indicator light on the device, and after half and hour, the AC adapter has no heat at all.  The device can still be powered on, but I doubt how long it can survive.  So this device is dead to me.  Once again, it shows that it's important to buy device that use standard USB based charging, as now I have a sort of working device, but can't use it because the AC adapter itself is dead.  So sad.

Super ultra short review on PS3 games (based on Demo) - Part 3

Continue spending time playing PlayStation 3 Demo in Christmas:

  • Super Stardust HD
    • Surprisingly fun!  I finished the demo and actually want to play more.
  • DeathSpank
    • As an action adventure, the game is ... fine .... I am just not much into the characters in the game.  Pass.
  • Deadliest Warrior: The Game
    • Stupid Mortal Kombat style fighting game crappy character.  Piece of shit game.
  • Fight Night Round 4
    • Played the tutorial for a while and I was bored.
  • Death Track: Resurrection
    • I tried the tutorial, and the game kept telling me that I missed the last checkpoint.  I was confused and eventually gave up.
  • Split/Second Multiplayer Demo
    • Surprisingly fun to play demo.  Very nice graphic, and the control seemed very responsive.  Nice driving game.
  • Quantum Theory
    • FPS, but the aiming doesn't seemed responsive enough.  Found shooting very frustrating, and eventually gave up.
  • R.U.S.E.
    • Seems like an ok war game, or real time strategy game.  But I was bored, a sign that I don't like this kind of game.
  • Battlefield 1943
    • Turns out it's an online game, and I couldn't get online.  So, delete.
  • Comet Crash
    • A tower defense game.  I played for a while, and... get bored.
  • Dead Space Extraction
    • Very nice adventure game.  Those quick time action reminds me Heavy Rain, and done right (except the machine activate sequence, which seemed too painful for analog stick and meant to be play on a mouse).  I finished the demo, and think I will enjoy the full game.
  • ModNation Racers
    • Too long loading time.  The game it's seems ok as a Mario Kart clone.  But I just don't like those characters enough to spend time on build stuff in this world.
  • Hastsune Miku: Project Diva F
    • Fun music game.  I actually re-play the demo.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
    • It was fun until the "Proceed to jump point" part.  I kept falling in the cliff, and didn't know to proceed.  Out of frustration, I deleted the demo.  One less game to buy.

Super ultra short review on PS3 games (based on Demo) - Part 2

Christmas ... perfect time to keep trying out PlayStation 3 demo game, so here we go again:

  • Just Cause 2
    • Surprisingly, I have a LOT of fun playing this game.  The explosion is just enjoyable.  It's just another GTA-like game.  But somehow I just keep replaying the demo.
  • Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2 Demo
    • OK, it's a flight sim, and I continue not enjoying this kind of game.
  • Resistance: FAll of Man
    • FPS.  I kind of enjoy the later level, but found the aliens too creepy, and aiming a bit painful.
  • Tank Battles
    • The game will be fun ONLY if I play with another human.
  • Siren: Blood Curse
    • Surprisingly enjoyable horror adventure game.  Script and voice acting maybe week, but the game is reasonably easy to control.  I actually finished the demo.  Nice game.
  • Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11
    • Enjoy the game, and it seems deep than I expected.
  • Smash Cars Demo
    • The racing game is really fun, but not fun enough to buy it.  Besides, I hate games that trick me to press Buy button.
  • Super Rub'a'Dub
    • Fun simple motion sensing game.  I finished it, and think ... that's enough for me.
  • Vanquish - Velocity Attack
    • It's kind of fun once I know the keys.  But the boss was hard to defeat.  At the end, I didn't finish the big boss.  Well, that's all I care I guess.
  • Top Gun
    • Flight simulator.  Slightly easier to control, but still don't like it.
  • DeathSpank Thongs of Virtue
    • An ok action adventure.  But I got stuck and after a while I got bored.

Super ultra short review on PS3 games (based on Demo)

It's time to clean up my PS3 harddisk, as all these game demos taking up my precious harddisk spaces.  But then I want to keep some quick notes and games I tried so that I am can get back to it in case I like the games.  So here's my quick review on game demos I tried:

  • Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
    • an OK action adventure game.  But I don't like the characters much, and that Majin's broken language kind of annoyed me.
  • Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2
    • Fan the manga might enjoy it, but I don't like it.
  • Apache: Air Assault
    • Tried, and found that I am still really really sick at flight simulator.
  • CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars
    • Played a few minutes and already found game super annoying.
  • Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers
    • Try, and found that I really don't enjoy MTG card games.  Got sleepy in the middle of the game.
  • MegaMan 9, 10
    • So annoying.  Lousy control.  Don't know why people like it.
  • NBA Live 10
    • I never play much of sports game before, but I found myself fair OK controlling this.  So I hate this game less than I expected.  Nevertheless, I still suck at playing sports game so ... nah.
  • NBA 2K10 : Draft Combine
    • Yep.  Still do not like playing basketball video game.
  • PuzzleGeddon
    • Color matching puzzle game is meant to be played on tablet.  This game pad button pressing control is to painful for me to deal with.  Pass.
  • MotorStorm
    • Found mountain bike ultra hard to control, while the regular motors are fun to play with.  Still, probably won't buy it even when it's on sale.  I rather play Mario Kart.
  • Lemming
    • The game itself is fine, but the control will be so much better if played on a tablet.
  • Nucleus+
    • Not like it.  It plays like all those 2 analog stick, one direct one shooting kind of shooting games, and somehow I hate those kind of shooting games.
  • PixelJunk Shooter
    • Very enjoyable.  I was surprise that I like this game so much as I just keep playing it.
  • Zombie Apocalypse
    • It's actually fun once I figured out how to play.  But then, I also managed to figure out how to shoot from a specific corner, and thus the game turned into something repetitive and boring quick.
  • Vanquish Challenge Mode
    • First person shooting ... something I don't get ... delete
  • Red Faction: Guerrilla
    • The game is like a GTA knock-off with in a SciFi setting.  The control is a bit odd to me, but I actually had some fun with it.
