Totally give up on use eSATA on Dell M6400

After trying and trying, using different cables and such, I finally gave up on using build in eSATA port on my office DELL M6400. It gave me tons of problem when using VMWare. Honestly, I still don't know if it's the problem of the port on that M6400 or not, but it shouldn't be the problem on the removable harddisk, as it works great on my home desktop and my office M90.

I'm with you - I have a Dell M6400 running Win 7 64-bit and I cannot get the flipping machine to connect to my Toshiba 1TB external drive via eSata... I'm convinced the problem is in the Dell.... wish they would fix this issue or at least communicate about it...

My eSATA drive randomly disconnects and reconnects at least once a day (maybe exactly once a day).

Several others fail to be recognized at all.

The fact that the "latest" M6400 A11 BIOS still contains the ancient Intel v8.0 Option ROM surely does not help matters. Updated Intel RST drivers are frequently tied to a corresponding upgrade of the Intel OROM.

This is entirely the responsibility of the OEM.

Since Dell distributes the BIOS, I consider this to be their problem.

I can fallback to IEEE-1394, but the Windows 7 driver stack is a notoriously bad implementation, despite being touted as vastly improved.
